Goodbye December, Hello January!

The holiday seasons find me actively engaged in decorating my home. It brings joy and comfort as I pack away one season and get ready for the next. Thankfully, my home has a large basement and inside its walls, I've built a sturdy storage system that helps protect my treasures as they await their next visit upstairs. (More to come about great storage and organization in a future post!)

I am sentimental. It isn't unusual for me to keep the gift store bag, holding a bit of the memory and the people I was with when the purchase was made...usually my Mom and other family members. She has a talent for decorating, and I love how she recognizes the distinctly different styles of all five of us kids in her gift giving. Mine tends toward vintage and storied. I love inherited objects and finding a way to fit them into both seasonal and daily life.
I love to decorate in a completely different way each Christmas. Over the past few years, my themes have ranged from Pink to Red and Black Buffalo Check to Traditional Red and Green Plaid. I don't think I've ever done the same Christmas decorations twice. I love putting prior decorations to use in new and different combinations, giving them new breath and life, and creating an entirely different look.

2025 CHRISTMAS IN REVIEW: NATURAL CEDAR
My 2025 decor featured a departure for me. Inspired by some gifts received in 2024, I opted for a much more natural look, focusing on greens, rich creams, and pearly whites. The My Texas House cedar tree created a soft and delicate backdrop for the ornaments. My decor stemmed from two particular gifts received from Mom in 2024. The first, a small cedar-style tabletop tree with pearl-embellished tips, and the second, a tin picture featuring a young girl in a lovely golden gown, evocative of Victorian-era England.
COMING IN 2026: FAVORITE CITYSCAPES
As I put away my decorations during the first couple weeks of January, I look over special items received and start to plan next year's theme. For me, it is going to be Cityscapes, focusing on Paris, London, and New York, three of my favorites. I will use blues, reds, and golds to pull the look together, and will enjoy looking for pieces over the course of the year. I will keep these photos in a folder on my phone to remember my inspiration and keep in fresh in my mind. I've finally finished packing 2025 away, but I'm already dreaming of Christmas 2026!
